“I lived with my parents, brother, and black Labrador in rural Pennsylvania. I was concerned with the ubiquity of barn cats in my neighborhood, which I’d heard would hunt both rabbits and birds when left out in the wild. In my free time, I searched for daddy long-legs and frogs in my backyard. I knew all of the frogs’ hiding spots, and I liked the feeling of their soft potbellies in my palms (I didn’t mind that they’d sometimes pee on me in fear). I also tried to lure fairies to my yard by building small lean-tos out of bark and moss, but that never seemed to work.”
