— Katie Condon, Age 16
“At sixteen, I was living in Connecticut and spent most days feeling simultaneously dejected and profound. When I wasn’t taking one million selfies for Myspace or playing basketball, I was hiking to lakes I was convinced no one else knew about and carving ‘KC + ?’ into birch tree trunks along the way. I took pride, I think, in being a hopelessly romantic pile of mush, especially when I was writing the song lyrics I dreamed I’d sell to Alison Krauss.”
